Created as my Senior Capstone for my BFA, Between Our Houses is a large, illustrated map of the neighborhoods in Northwest Washington D.C. in which I grew up. While not presented as a linear narrative, the playful illustrations and descriptions of the highlighted locations give the viewer insight into who I am and the experiences that shaped me. I chose this color scheme and utilized an isometric view in order to maintain both density and clarity, while also making the viewer feel as though they are looking down on a real, albeit fantastical, place, rather than at a map. I referenced the work of Aaron Meshon, Andrew DeGraff, Mario Zucca, and Alfred Mahlau (whose illustrated map of Lübeck, which directly inspired this map, I was delighted to discover is in the V&A’s collection).
